I can see the end of the build phase of the latest 7 approaching. Then there will be the weeks / months of waiting for NCDMV to do their thing.
Autocross is all but non-existant due to COVID, so it's time for a new project.
I watch Craigslist and Marketplace daily and always on the lookout for fun or a deal.
Last week up pops a 72 Spitfire "Project" aka jigsaw puzzle or basket case, depending on your terminology.
I was a little excited about it but only a little. A week goes by, then another week and it's still for sale. Today we were out looking at houses my our Daughter, and I realized it was a really short side trip to go see the car. A few messages later and we're there.
Sitting in a pole barn is a 72 Spitfire in resale red
Rebuilt 1500 motor and transmission in the car, plus the original 1298 and gearbox
Body was frame off restored 5 years ago. New quarters, new floors, new trunk pan, new rockers, new battery tray and patched undercowl. There are receipts and stickers still on the floor and trunk pans.
I went over the body from stem to stern and it's all metal.
Engine purrs like a kitten with a brand new Weber downdraft on it and new header from Moss.
Seats are redone
New in box carpets.
Hydraulics redone
It needs a top, new door cards, wiring needs to be DPO'd and has a rock chip in the windshield. Windshield is a sshame because it's a new windshield done when the body was painted.
Needs to be put back together.
