Show me your motorcycle engine motor mounts
I am using a BMW S1000RR and the mounting scheme for a motorcycle frame is not lending itself to an elegant solution so far. I have made some tubular pieces that bolt to he existing mounting holes, 3 per side, but tying it all together with tubing, then pulling an easily installed chassis mount off of this mess of tubing all seems a bit kludgey. I want to be able to pull the engine out really easily for service. It would have been nice if the mounting holes were all in the same plane, but they are not
. Anyway....looking for some inspiration if there is any to be had.

Parts left out cost nothing and cause no problems!!

Re: Show me your motorcycle engine motor mounts
JPS,
if you go to page 3 of my build log, there are a couple of pics of my engine mounts. I wanted to mount the engine as it is mounted in the R1 frame, so that the mount castings are loaded as they were designed.
Hope this helps.

Re: Show me your motorcycle engine motor mounts
Can you post a picture of the S1000RR engine showing the mounting holes? Maybe we can help with some ideas.
You can see the evolution of my motor mounts on page 3 of my build log too. viewtopic.php?f=35&t=7180&start=30
The final solution suggested by one of our fine members ended up being very easy to install.

Re: Show me your motorcycle engine motor mounts
JPS, not sure if this path is available to you, but, in the B-3 I was able to take the entire engine cradle from the donor, section it to fit in the engine bay at the angle I needed the output flange at, and then weld the cradle in.
you got the engine separate from any of the donor frame, if I recall correctly right?

Re: Show me your motorcycle engine motor mounts
forget what I wrote above, not even relevant
but, this picture is instructive:
the SS1KRR both hangs its engine from four points on the cylinder head, and four points on the back end of the transmission case (the top rear mount in this picture is hidden by that little aluminum cover.
if it was me, I'd engineer a removable top mounting frame that both bolted to separate mounts on the chassis, and picked up the four cylinder head mounting points (2X each side), and then provide fixed points in the chassis to pick up the transmission case mounts.
when I was figuing out my engine placement, I supported the engine from underneath with a movable and height adjustable positioning fixture, made of 1.5 square tubing, some angle steel, four casters, and three bottle jacks:
I set the frame up on stands as high as I could and then placed the engine in the bay on the positioning fixture, and moved it incrementally. made it very easy to set the engine position and then figure out the mounting around that.
I can take some detailed pics of the fixture ad post them if you like.
