Hello,

I'm Koert and I want to build a Fiat 126 with a bike engine. I have seen videos and read threads and forums about them but I have a couple questions.

I know you have to have a chain drive build so you can power a rear end with the chain and sprocket from the bike.

So, is there a way you could keep the stock axles?

I also heard of people who bought a rear end of a Mazda Miata, had that converted to chain drive and used that, but if I'm not mistaken that would also require the axles to be shorted at least a little bit. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Now I was thinking if I have to buy a rear end anyway, and have to axles shortened it might be better to buy a rear end that has 5 lug nuts ( rather than four like the Miata) and disk brakes.
5 lug nuts also offer much more options for performance breaking and wheels. I was thinking maybe something off an older BMW?

You can buy adapters to replace the drive chain sprocket with a flange to mount a drive shaft.

question?
i'm thinking the 126 is a rear engine car? i will have to look it up.
if it's the car i'm thinking of there is not allot of room in the engine bay so what motor are you thinking of and what lay out of the motor to drive system are you also looking to build?
i'm seeing no reason to need to go to a 5 lug wheel when we want to do a 5 lug we tend to look at the mazda RX8's but the NA and NB miata's have disc brakes and good stopping power from them.
is there room in the engine bay to place the motor in front of the rear axle line in the 126?
you could maybe pull the differential out of the transaxle of the 126 and use that with the same axles?
remove the ring gear and it gets replaced with a sprocket. we use rebel gears for most of our sprocket needs.
