Maybe it's just me, but looking at those top 2 bars aimed right at your face scared the heck out of me.

What are you planning for bodywork? Will you be building it or buying it?

Many thanks for the comments.
DSR (D sports racer) allows 10" wheels (cheap) and up to 1000cc engines. I am using a 600cc Yamaha and trying to keep the car SMALL and reasonably light. More of a track day car but built to SCCA safety specs. Trying for low maintenance costs.
It will be a sports racer and I am working on the body work now. I will be making a plug out of foam and wood, then a mold from that and finally a body out of the mold. The first body part will be the front splitter.
The "bars" are required bracing for the forward roll hoop.
The seat is based on a Anderson Maverick Superkart that I have a mold for. Interested in one?

I have been thinking about and sketching designs for something similar since my Seven has been done for 5 months or so. Also DSR but I am going to go with 1 liter Suzuki or Yamaha power. What did your chassis end up weighing? Any thoughts on commercially available bodywork except for cost? I would love to be able to do something like this on a shoestring budget as it appears you are doing.
I will be following closely.
Paul

Thanks again for the positive comments.

The shocks are R1 Yamaha. I have made new upper spring perches to allow 6" long springs. I do not have to have the springs preloaded now as on the bike. I bought 5 sets of springs - 450# to 650# to play with.

Frame is heavy - complete with all brackets - about 130#'s but is built to SCCA specs.

Body is in process now. I am going to experiment with polyiso insulation board for a plug. It is relatively soft but does not react to polyester resin. It is also cheap. I will then make a mold but the body itself may have to be done with epoxy do to its long working time.

very nice build, too many home made parts for me though, don't have the equipment to do that.

you clearly have the equipment and the skill to use it, good job.

I have been busy but not posting - 15 gallons of polyester resin and 5 gallons of Bondo later. Body work is VERY time consuming and COSTLY!!

I am just about done with the body bucks and am going to recycle them (DESTROY) to make room. Anybody want
them???

Pictures show the bucks and the molds for the right and left sides. I made a "drape" body of the center section but think I will make a mold of it before I trash it. Drape is taking the body directly off the plug and then finishing the outside. Dimensionally it becomes a little larger.

There is a picture of the chassis with the center body and front spoiler.

I just picked up your new build thread. I don't know how this one got by me until today. Great stuff.

Cheers,
