Looking for any other examples of this Super Seven rep. I have one and have been able to locate only one other in the west. I believe these were made in CA in the 80's. The one I own is powered by the Ford 2.3l mustang ll engine and running gear. Would like to hear from anyone who can shed light on this car. Nick |

You are in luck! I drooled over the H&S Seven in school (drooled over many things actually) and kept my car mags. H&S Engineering made the Sabre Seven in Ventura, CA in a couple states of tune. They had the first aftermarket installation of the Quad 4 and added turbocharging. I also have a road testing article. |

"Lotus Seven and the Independents" book has a page on the HS Sabre Seven. According to the book, H & S Engineering started producing Sevens in 1974. They built cars designed for the Ford 2.0 and 2.3L OHC engines and suspension parts. They built a few cars for the Mazda rotary drivetrain. The Quad 4 came in 1989 as the business was starting to decline and finally closed their doors in 1991. |

Total Performance still sells T bucket kits. The article said you had some trouble and shows a cloud of smoke behind the P4. Did the buick 215 have some oiling problems from all that hard cornering? I guess somebody nicked Nick. |

That was the event that proved the importance of a well baffled sump if you plan to do any serious cornering. Oil slosh can overcome the rings and also robs power. Despite that I think I ran pretty good numbers on the skid pad. My current Dio-Tipo build is dry-sumped! |

We have a 1987 but completed in 1991 ( & titled as 1991) Sabre 7. It has been sitting in the garage since 1994. some things have been partially disassembled. It has a Mustang engine. about 5,000 miles on it. Anyone interested? |

Boy this one hits close to home, as it was the first kit car I seriously considered. Alas, I was living at home at the time, working my way through college, and had little money and time. Still, I reread the above articles many times, talked to the manufacturer, and had all the literature. I learned that a customer's car was being trucked to my area to have its engine tuned so I went over to see it. Yes, it was a "Seven", but I remember thinking how large it was. Also, when it was backed off the truck, it got high-centered and scraped the hell out of the bottom, but as the new owner wasn't around, no one seemed concerned. Regarding the Quad4 engine, boy that engine was a big letdown. I remember when Detroit announced it, and all the magazines were sure it was going to be The Next Big Thing for aftermarket tuners—kind of like what the Honda K-series ended up being. As I recall, the Quad4 wasn't very reliable, enough so that there was little or no aftermarket interest. It did look good from the outside, but proved to be a disappointment. Anyway, seeing the Saber Seven in person sort of tempered my dreams, as it was bigger than expect, made mostly of fiberglass (as I recall), and was painted white, none of which pushed my buttons. Later, I considered the Rotus kit car, but decided against that one as well due to the sketchy individual who ran the company. Several decades later, I said screw it, and built my own "Mini" and mid-engine "Seven". |
