Actually gravity sucks, especially when pulling on body parts


Few pages back Lonnie asked how I'm going to deal with the windshield wiper arm posts being low in the scuttle. Today I addressed the issue. I applied a skill I learned in grade 4 and traced and cut out the pattern for the scuttle sheet from construction paper. Once laid up on the scuttle I was able to see how much I had to extend the WW pivot posts - 7/16". Took apart the pivot post assemblies, fabbed up a couple of longer posts and re assembled everything. Some pics.

Very good. How do you keep the new extenders in place? Is it a friction fit or are you using epoxy or something?

The old ones were serated and the ends swaged, I machined the new one to press fit and plug welded the ends.



Did some odds and ends on the car: applied strip caulking around the steering column to firewall, installed keeper on gas pedal/throttle cable, installed pull handle assembly for the E brake release.
Then I transferred the scuttle construction paper template to aluminum and cut it out. I used electric shears to cut within 1/4" on the line. Then cut by hand with aviation snips. I use a wood rasp to dress the edge. Forstner drill bits work great for cutting holes in aluminum. Test fit piece to scuttle.









Made the exhaust cut out, will apply it to the full size template.

I am glad that there are experienced builders here.
I'm a ways off from bending sheets of metal, but it'll be handy to look back at some of these threads when I get to that point. Wouldn't have thought about the strap to test fit.

Perry has a lot of tricks up his sleeve, if one just looks closely. Look at the magnets holding the header CAD (Carboard Aided Design) cutout on the top rail.

Good eye Chuck! I'd be willing to bet a dollar that there are escaped magnets hiding on some of my finished builds as I have to keep replenishing them!!

Hey Josh, for this build I used Princess Auto steel trailer fenders. Had to buy 3 for the rear fenders cause I had to lengthen each side 11”. The fronts had to be shortened, can’t remember how much.

That's right, I added 11" to the circumference of the fender, that's why I bought a 3rd fender. The fender width was acceptable.




So work on the 7 has slowed down considerably since the nice weather has arrived. Getting things organized to replace the small well pump house with a 16' x 12' building that will house the new 2100 gal cistern (I will be hauling city water to fill this) and well. Should have concrete poured in the next couple weeks.


But I did manage to mark my rivet locations (~2" spacing) and drill and cleco the aluminum to the scuttle. As always, some pics
