I did get a little time on the Berk to test out my snazzy new LED "Switchback" front marker/ turn signal bulbs. I know I'm repeating myself, but I'm doing all I can to put bright, noticeable lights on this tiny car. These little switchback bulbs glow white in normal service, but when you turn on a turn signal, that side flashes AMBER-OFF-AMBER-OFF.. I know they're not period correct, and it's hard to tell in the pics, but they're very bright, and in person, they really do draw your eye and command attention.. Next up, I'll wire in the H3 LED replacement bulbs into the yellow fog lights..

interesting. Care to share which ones you bought? I might be interested for my MGB GT. Does the Berk use a Lucas 594 turn signal?

It can't always be about the cars..

No Berkeley or Volvo stuff this week.. this has been all about taking a little vacation to celebrate our anniversary.. Lisa and I got engaged at Lake Tahoe, CA in 1990, so this week we brought our kids and a few friends and family back up the mountain to celebrate our 30th as we renewed our vows. Our original wedding date was fraught with problems and glitches and stress (as I suspect many weddings are), and for years Lisa has been asking to renew our vows so she could have a 'no stress' wedding.. I'm happy to say this time around things worked out very well :D

About Lake Tahoe... Every time we go up to Tahoe I'm reminded of just how stunning it is- incredibly clear water.. so much to see and do.. If you've ever needed a reason to come out west and see something amazing, a visit to Lake Tahoe certainly qualifies

Thats awesome! We did the same thing in Barbados years ago but did not have immediate family there. Our stand in maid of honour was close to 90 years old.

On another note, looking at your guys pic, the look on your face and the way Lisa giggling I can just imagine where you're right hand is resting

Perry, if you didn't have any family around at your renewal, where would your right hand have been?

What dad wants for Father's Day

When my dad was alive I perpetually struggled with what to get him for Father's Day. It was always just weird and awkward.. maybe I was just weird and awkward, I don't know.. For him, a tie would have never left the closet... Cologne? nah.. and not another coffee cup.. dad's can be tough to buy for.

Now that it's me who is the dad, my youngest daughter (18) has always struggled with what to get me of Father's Day.. I've gotten some pretty odd stuff.. last year she gave me a flat-brim hat with Godzilla on the front(?). I tried to act happy, but that's tough to do while you're thinking what the hell is this?!

This year, however, she nailed it! It came from England, so it's a little late, but as you can see in the pic, this year she thought to get me a "Berkeley" key fob!.. I LOVE IT :D What a sweetheart to very much on purpose seek out a silly key fob for a silly car for her silly dad.. I'm so proud of her

That's outstanding insight and effort on her part, for sure.

7-2-21.. Getting out..

I'm making a conscious effort to get out of the garage and be social- with Covid, I've been spending too much time alone in the garage these last many months, and I fear it's turning me into a hermit

These last few weeks I've been going to the local Saturday morning C&C (Pismo Beach), and last night I went to the tiny local town of Templeton to take in their monthly cruise. It was a good time with a nice mix of vintage cars that eventually showed up.. When I came up in the 80's, our local Bay Area cops had pretty much shut down ALL cruises.. it was a bummer.. This region of the state (central coast) has a car/cruise culture that is very active.. pick your night (Fri/Sat) and pick your local town, and there's a weekly/monthly cruise within an hour of your home. Templeton is a tiny little town with one little market on the 2-lane main drag where the cruise happens.. lots of people, young and old, set up lawn chairs to watch the loosely organized spectacle go by.. among the cars, young teens on dirt bikes cruise up and down the town and not a cop in sight.. in just a few years they'll have a license and a car, and soon they'll be the next generation to step into the classic car culture.

I had a good time, and the Berk ran well

Yup, it's very unfortunate. Fortunately, I grew up in the Bay Area with every Friday and Saturday night were cruse nights on 4th Street up in our County Seat - San Rafael. It was a blast. If you saw the movie American Graffiti, some of the cruse footage was filmed on 4th Street (and also in Petaluma) even though it was set in Modesto.

But, good on Templeton! There's hope.

Cheers,

Funny what happens when the kids who grew up cruising are old enough to be part of governments... suddenly it's ok again.
