Took the car out to a test site where a very small course was laid out. After a pass through the course some straight line WOT sections were added to get some more data. Not much bite from the 3-year old tires, so time for some fresh ones, hoping we'll be allowed to put on events soon.

The engine wasn't happy in the low to mid range, especially in 2nd gear. So, I opened the fuel mapping to make some changes and discovered that I had installed a version of the 13B bin file that had been used when there were slightly smaller injectors in it. That has been corrected and more tuning will ensue.
Also, when I went to process the video and data logs, the program couldn't find the templates, so only the video of the 3rd run was posted earlier. I was able to find the templates, and the program can find then now. Thus, my normal merge of the video and data from the 2nd run are posted:

Very cool! Great sound the overlay is nice. It looks like it goes like stink!

What is the other car you pass by when parking?

Thank you for sharing,
Eric

Ohmite,
Yes it does, in third gear (my normal AX gear) it pulls hard from 4k to 7k. On a good surface, with fresh tires, this powertrain usually accelerates at greater than 1g. :D

The orange car is a 1976 Legrand D Sports Racer that runs in B Mod.

Thanks Ken.

The fiberglass hood has been installed and the weight reduction was 22 pounds. Hopefully, we'll be starting our AutoX season next month.

A few more tasks were accomplished. The rear bumper was completed and most of the diffusser panel. The important decals were applied.

The RX7 ran its first event yesterday. While the car ran OK, a few items need attention. The power output is down. I'm thinking that the wastegate merge with the primary exhaust pipe has reduced the flow. Redesign the exhaust system.
On my first two runs in the afternoon, at different locations on the course, I carried too much speed into a corner. No problem, the brakes work great. The extra deceleration resulted in the splitter making enough contact that wild steering effort was required to keep it on course. Raise the splitter.
While not really a problem, the videos showed me that the dead pedal for my left foot went completely unused. I haven't had one in my autocross cars for the last several decades. So, the old dog just needs to learn a new trick.
Some videos for your entertainment:

EDIT: After studying the data and videos further, I think the initial upset in both cases was caused by being too fast on entry combined with too much rear brake bias and was magnified by off-camber corners. Bias bar has been shifted two turns toward the front and the driver has been scolded.

A friend took this video of one of the morning runs. He's also the new owner of my Locost/1.4L ecotec and he's added street trim/registration. I'll get some pics of it and add them to its build log.
Another item that was identified is a need to install the 5th/reverse lockout that had been on the Caterham previously. It's around here somewhere, if not, it will be easy to duplicate.

The exhaust system has been changed so that the wastegate has its own muffler and exit pipe.
The front and rear spring rates have been increased.
A lockout mechanism was made to prohibit the use of 5th/reverse without moving a spring-loaded bar out of the way.

In addition to the exhaust and spring changes, the 4.77 ring and pinion got replaced by a new set of 5.38 gears. The launches and the general engine feel was much better but, the turbo wasn't making over 10 psi boost on Saturday. The datalogger was working on Saturday but, on Sunday it created a log for each run which contained no data. I suspect the SD card but this will need to be fixed before the next event.
This morning I started to remove the complete intake section from the turbo outlet to the throttle body inlet for pressure testing. Upon removing the wastegate pressure signal tube, I found that the rubber hose had a split in the end of it. It will be replaced with a piece of reinforced fuel injection hose.

I think this was the best run on Sunday:

Our resident driver/photographer took some great pictures at the autocross last weekend.

The only data obtained on Saturday was on my first pass in the first run group in the morning:

The pictures are great your car looks fantastic. It looks planted and only a slight hint of body roll in that second picture...very stiff. The video with the data overlay is great, is the first circle 0.5g or 1g?
Regards,
Eric
