I started this page on a recommendation of a friend. I wasn’t sure about running one but aye what the hell. I have acquired a Ford 302, T5 out of a 2000 Mustang and a 8.8LSD from...no one cares. Stuff all this into a GT. I included the inspiration pic too. Classic sport is what I would call it. Since the 7 became my car I felt bad because my wife really doesn’t care for climbing in and out or the wind factor. So I decided this will be a 3 season daily driver with AC.
The 302 will get a mild cam and head port. Should run 300hp with 325lbft all coming on at 3500rpm. Perfect!!
I found bodies in Lake Elsinore,CA, the guy has lots of them. He said their rust free. We’ll see, kinda sounds like a oxymoron in regards to MG but since I will have the time in June I’ll drive out and get one. Drive train free their $1200 as he claimed class A condition. Since it releases me from a pile of shopping I’ll take him up on it. So in June the real work will start. At least now I’m
established.

I'll be looking forward to this build, Steve.

My only concern out of the box is that the 8.8 rear end is a really big chunk of iron for an MGB. I assume you'll have to narrow it.

Yup, somewhere around 6” gets whacked off. It is big but these V8 addicts use 9” rears too, they are just as big, but the parasitic drag is horrible.

Cool, another B GT project. I haven't posted anything on mine on this site yet. I picked up a very nice 71 here in Vancouver and have started putting together all the bits to turn it into a 66 clone albeit with a Ford Zetec and RX8 6 speed gearbox. I did start a build log on GRM, but due to the current restrictions up here, I haven't been able to do any work on it in the last few months.

The Ford small block looks like it has good size intake ports. Did you luck out and get GT or GTP heads on the motor?

Great question Dave, No, LOL. I did run across a really good article where a guy did a meticulous head port as close as he could using GT40 heads and ported the E7 to match. He dropped in Chevy 1.9intake and 1.6 exhaust valves then reshaped the E7’s. He got so close to GT heads it was incredible. I’m only looking for around 300hp. For this set up it really should only be the porting and a cam, still living within a 550cfm carb. I just don’t feel like paying for GT40’s. This is the info I found.

I wish I had a shop that big, but sadly it just the underground parking in my building, and our strata won't let me work on my cars. I have to use dear old dads garage, but that won't happen until hopefully the 8th of January when the health order gets lifted.

I'm looking forward to seeing the build. How many GT's does the guy in California have? I don't know what it is, but lately GT's (at least up here) are few and far between. I was looking on and off for a few months and found maybe 3 of 4 for sale. My car wasn't really for sale but the guy was knee deep in a Subaru swap into a VW Vanagon.

I see removable hardtops. He might possibly have some good GT windshields. And I know somebody driving out there sometime next year..... :mrgreen:
