Does anyone have a good reliable shipping company that you've used before to ship a car or a roller, and if so how much did it run you?

I'd be more interested in buying a roller or an incomplete project if I had a sense of how much shipping would be.

I recently got a quote from UShip for a kit car to come from Florida to Nevada.
Not a runner, $2.1K

You can find quotes of $1.00 per mile all day long. :ack:

I also just put up a listing to see and they're quoting $1900 for a running one. Holy [PooPoo] that's expensive. What happened to $800 I heard about

$800 hasn't happened in a long time. Electronic time trackers, increased insurance costs, and fuel have made shipping expensive.
When I bought the kit for Tetanus it cost me about 1/2 as much to have Pirate7 break it down and build a crate around it. It came to SC from WY in a BIG FREAKIN BOX for <$500 by shipping common carrier LTL.

I used uship a few years ago to move a police tricycle so not too big.

They key is timing to find somebody that happens to be passing both the pickup and delivery locations and has enough space left over for your stuff.

Better deal to fly one way (book well in advance and be flexible on time and date), rent a pickup truck, a dolly from uhaul, drive home, drop it all locally.

I got quoted $1850-2250 so it looks like shipping kills the deal for me.

If TIME is not an issue you may find someone on the HAMB, or another site that has a lot of folk traveling with trailers.
I've been told that Racing Junk can be a good site to look at.

It has been several years since I shipped a car from IL to Cali but it was over a $1000 then. When we moved from IL to Boston, I considered shipping my half completed Cobra kit (long story but we still have the house in the mid west) out to finish. I ended up pricing out renting a small U-Haul truck and car trailer. They will not rent their pickups or vans one way so you have to take their smallest box truck. With rental, gas, motel & food the cost was estimated at $1700. I rented a U-Haul pod that I picked up and loaded & they delivered to Boston- $1100. Pods would have been about $1600, but it does have more room in the pod. Just another option.

Has anyone ever shipped via freight before for a frame that is not a roller?

I was interested in picking up a frame that is sort of complete but not a roller. It has loose parts like the engine, trans and other car parts. Which the owner would bundle up into boxes. But ultimately I am guessing it has to go on a pallet.

I did a quick quote online and it says Fedex charges $600 to deliver but this assumes the pallet is 10 feet x 5 feet. No idea where the seller would get a pallet of that size

Dimensions mean a lot.
I'm about to ship 2,000 pounds pretty much cross-country for less than $500.00
But it all fits into three 40x48x36 crates.

Consider cutting it in half or thirds at the bulkheads for boxing and train transport.

It's not the US, but last year I shipped my Colorado with my iceboat on top from Winnipeg to Halifax, It took 4.5 months and cost $4500CAD. I wouldn't recommend the shipper ....

It speaks to the need to get reviews before choosing. We were in post-heart attack mode and short cut that important step. Oops.
