They are either using the wrong "Duratec" or have a NA or NB transmission.

A 2.0, 2.3, or 2.5 liter 4 cylinder Duratec will bolt to a NC Miata transmission.

So some people are saying the NC miata transmission doesn't actually match up perfectly, and that the bolt holes dont line up, causing the transmission to be twisted a bit.

Does anyone have any experience with this issue?

This post in this very thread mentions that the Miata's engine is tilted 10 degrees, so if you mount your engine perfectly level and bolt up the Miata transmission, the transmission will be tilted 10 degrees. Tilt the trans or the engine.

I am using the engine and 6-speed manual from a 2006 Miata for my build. In my research, it appears that utilizing the Miata ECU and chassis harness MIGHT be more hassle than it's worth. My gut is telling me that a standalone ECU would simplify the build because the factory ECU is teamed with the factory instrument cluster, immobilizer, etc., etc. (all of which I have). What are the experiences with engine management using the Duratec? Let me close by saying that my experience with ECU's have been relegated to no more than pulling codes with a scanner to diagnose. Thank you in advance for any input.

mods: My apologies if this post is better suited to the "electronics" category.

Same- I have the ECU from the MZR, but talked to some folks who reprogram them and they said- not worth it for what you are trying to do. Megasquirt.

So I bought a microsquirt and hoping I can find a decent base tune for ITB's and MZR 2.0

@Brust: Since I posted my question, I have corresponded with a tech at Fab9 tuning who sell the ME442 standalone for the MZR, as well as the ECUTEK ecu interface and flash. FAB9 say that they can remotely shut off the immobilizer, airbags, etc. They would also still be able to diagnose and tune remotely. As I have a complete donor, I am leaning heavily toward the ECUTEC route. All in it would be about $575. I will keep an eye out for your post to see how you progress. If it work for you I might be inclined to go in that direction. Thank fully, I have a way to go before I really need to worry about it.

Cheers,
Jeff

Man- I walked away for a bit- thanks for the reply. I bought cams from Fab9- still haven't gotten it running--- soooooo much fab work on suspension, rust repair, and now working on the exhaust manifold. Slow going.

I read about the ME442- surprised they didn't mention that when I asked about the reprogram. I'll check closer in on it. Let me know if you come up with anything. I'm honestly surprised there aren't MSEFI tunes floating around for Duratec 2.0's given how popular they are on Locosts, etc.

The internet is terrible with engine dimensions, but OMEX has some pretty good ones.

Look for Duratec related threads and posts by BBlue. If I recall correctly, he went from 2.3L to 2.5L Duratec.

Anybody knows by any chance, if the 2013-2016 Ford 2.5L engines are the same, as the newer ones 2017+?
I'm about to buy one, and I would like to know, if I should get the newer one, or I should just stick to the older ones.
Any help would be appreciated.

I have picked up a 2016 Fusion 2.5L engine.
Anybody knows, if the starter from the Fusion would work, with a MX5 flywheel? Or should I get an MX5 starter?

I don't know about the fusion specifically, but every different applications I've seen of these uses a different starter. So I'm pretty sure you'll need the Miata starter to go with the Miata flywheel.

Also, anybody is familiar with these starters? There is only one for all type of NC Miatas, or there are two separate ones for automatic and manual transmission?

A quick RockAuto browse on a 2010 shows only 1 option, does not distinguish Man/Auto.
But, I'd maybe confirm with your local Mazda dealer & ask if it's the same part number/application.
