Going to start the hunt for a running/driving salvage Miata.

I know from reading here that the 2001+ NB with VVT have some hood clearance issues, so looking at 99-00.

Are there any fitment issues to be concerned about with the NC? I remember preferring the NC 6spd over the NB 6MT, as I found myself hitting the 'corner' of R when going for 5th quickly, not a problem on the NC.
How is the NC as a donor, as far as the rest of the running gear?

NC has a multi-link rear suspension, rather than double A-arm, so that may be more difficult to adapt to a Locost.

I've never been under an NC. Is its multi-link suspension in a single bolt-to-the-chassis unit, like the earlier Miatas?

Looks like it is, though the mounting would not be quite as simple as the NA/NB, still looks very usable.

Thanks Beelzeboss, and though I don't see how it mounts to the chassis, just the fact that it DOES mount to the chassis gives me hope. :)

I'm planning to go this route as well.

The NC Yacht is the cheapest Miata right now at least in my area. NA and NB are stupid expensive right now.
Wrecked and rusty 200k mile garbage going for 3k minimum

And in the photo three posts up from this one...what in the heck is that shiny thing top center, that looks a bit like a steering rack?

(Derp. Never mind, I figured it out. It's part of the diff mount.)

Are there drawings available for this subframe? And the four chassis mount points, do my eyes deceive me, or does it have stands for rubby beeby beeble...reeble beeble -- give me a sec, I'll get it -- rubber baby buggy bumpers?

I'm thinking about using the RX8 rear end. They seem a bit cheaper, also have a bigger internal gear, hubs are a bit stronger(per flyin miata).
My only concern is, that the ratio(4.44) is a bit off for the Duratec + 6sp MX5 transmission. Later ones are even worse, 4.77.
I'm thinking about using bigger tires, to compensate for that.

Use the rear subframe from an automatic RX8. They should be 4.30 final drive, so that may line up a bit better with what you're aiming for. Lot's of conflicting information however, and may be different from series to series. The 4.30 number I found is for the Series 2.

It does not matter, if it is auto or manual, just the ratio matters?
I'm a novice in building a car.
I should probably stick to an MX5, just to be sure, that I won't be way off with the end result.

New user here, first post. Having similar thoughts about NC donor parts, for the engine, trans and diff. Do NB half shafts fit an NC diff? Or, NC half shafts fit NB hubs?

What’s everyone doing for hubs? Sounds like NC barely fits some 16” rims, which is a bit large for a 7.

It really depends on what you want to do with your build. I went through the idea of doing a whole rear subframe, but I felt that it woukd add too much weight for my liking. I am using the 5-speed and drive shaft from an NC, NB uprights and Diff. The engine is going to be a 2.5 Duratec out of a Ford Fusion since they are super super cheap and available. An Ideal Locost Motor as long as you are not trying to fit into a SCCA class.
