In south central NH I have found a salvage yard with several complete Pintos & MIIs, both 4cyl & V6. They will take $500 for any of them. The name of the place is Blanchards in Wilton, NH. Phone (603)654-9445. Happy hunting.

Sometimes i think the 2.3 Pinto/Mustang II w 4/5 speed is the perfect locost donor. Not as cool as a Miata base (or as fast stock) but for simplicity and parts use hard to beat. Not to mention the pretty solid after market support since ford made the 2.3 well into the 90's I think. Though they are a bit pudgy.

There is good aftermarket support for the 2.3 and you can get lots of
power if you want. front suspension is perfect for a locost rear axle is perfect and there are all sorts of brake upgrades for them. I almost used a 2.0
as my donor but it was too far away. The 1.6l pinto is a perfect period donor
It's 1.6l kent crossflow motor!!!! perfect book fit. good aftermarket support
if you look hard(formula Ford)
