Has anyone used the front spindles from an NC Miata? Looking to find the balljoints to match. A search just throws up NA/NB spindles.
Thank you
Martin

They don't come separate from the uca on the NC. The NC has very nice control arms at around $150 a set or if the taper happens to be different from na/nb, then you could ream to fit a tie rod or drill to fit universal sphericals.

If you are converting from nb to nc, the geo may be different so not necessarily a straight swap without mods to arms and/or pickups.

I'd think you would want to maximize regen (electric motor braking) and use na brakes for better efficiency.

Thanks. I have a set of NA spindles but would like to go with 5x114.3 bolt pattern. Long story short, I have the Model S axles and the S hubs have a 5x120 bolt pattern which sucks for my wheel options. I have a Model 3 hub on its way - from photographs it has the same spline count and diameter, so if that fits that gives me 5x114.3 bolt pattern on the rear. I have found rims that could match with the 5x114.3 on the rear and 4x100 on the front but sacrifice on the width I desire. Hence trying the NC spindles...if I can get 5x114.3 all round I'm winning. Aiming for 17x10in on the rear, 17x8in on the front which I can get from Goodwin. This all rides on the Model 3 hub fitting!
If I were to go with universal sphericals, is there a brand I should look to?
Thanks again

I don’t know. Each mfg has a variety of joints and you get what you pay for imho. Some things to look for are: zero clearance between liner and ball, cad plate steel housing, stainless ball, PTFE liner, high misalignment (up to 22deg), oversize shank compared to ball opening, etc. A loose/sloppy fit ball rod end is junk. When you weigh strength, service life, range of motion, maintenance, and cost, a tie rod end stacks up better than any spherical.

There are hubcentric adapters available off the shelf for any combination of those wheel patterns. Probably better to fit a wheel design that is available in both 4x100 and 5x114.3 or adapt 120 to 114.3 or 100.

Thanks for the info on the sphericals.
10/4 on the adapters. I went back and forth on those- particularly concerned about the torque I'll be putting through the rears, and the extra width they introduce. It's a juggle of compromises!

Plan A is the Model 3 hub works for the rear and I can find the ball joints necessary for the NC spindles.
Plan B is sphericals up front on the NC with a 5x120 to 5x114.3 adapter at the rear. This will simplify brake options.
Plan C is NA spindles up front with a compromise of 1 inch wheel width on rear (5x120).

My brain keeps randomly switching between al three!
Deliveries of Model 3 hub and NC upright this week. Fingers crossed.
