From what I read, any rebuild kits will have seals that are good for DOT 3, DOT 4 or DOT
5.1 as they are all glycol based. A lot of guys claim they are running DOT
5 (silicone) successfully. Even so, some brake part suppliers say do not use with DOT 5 brake fluids. So pay your money and take your chances if you want to use DOT 5.
Over the years, I have never personally used DOT 5 in any of my Brit cars (MG, TR, A-H) or any other car for that matter (Ford, GM, Dodge, Mazda, Hyundai, VW or Cushman
). IMO, the primary reason to even consider DOT 5 is
if the system leaks, it won't eat a $10,000 paint job. There are some who claim there are other technical reasons. I've never felt I was in that arena and needed to switch.
I'm sure you will get both answers if you wait long enough.
