I'm getting to the point in my build where I need to do something about my donor brakes. They worked OK when I drove my donor Mustang, but have been sitting for years. My plan was always to at least rebuild them & get new rotors & pads.

I spotted these brake kits from Power Stop on Rockauto.com. They include red powder coated calipers, new rotors, carbon fiber ceramic formula pads and all new hardware. Supposedly, it's a complete kit, everything new or refurbished, pressure tested, etc. Cost is $529.99.

On the face of it, it looks like a reasonable price, but I know nothing of the company or it's products. Does anyone have any experience with them? Do you know of a better alternative?

Mine will be a street cruiser, not a track car. So, I'm not concerned about bigger brakes. Stock they are 10.9" disks at front, and 10.5" at rear, single piston.

Cheers,

I'm using lower line power stop rotors and pads on my tundra. Using some higher level stuff on another truck. They work fine.

I was never a fan of drilled/slotted rotors on non-track vehicles. More likely to crack and you can't cut them on a lathe.

Also not a fan of drilling and slotting. Got to be careful with some of the rockauto rebuilt calipers.

I recently found the reman front caliper I put on the GO4 trike a few years ago was seized. I cleaned and painted it when I got it but didn't completely tear it down. The piston dust seal is retained by a wire ring on the outside with a protruding lip around the piston that is part of the iron housing. It had completely corroded so there is nothing left to retain the seal plus the new piston that came in it is also corroded and pitted. It is a ford festiva only application.

I prefer to rebuild.

Thanks for the input.

I hadn't thought about the holes and slots as a potential maintenance issue. They weren't even part of my considerations. They probably are more for "sex appeal" to buyers than a real benefit.

I liked the idea the kit would save me a lot of labor making things pretty, and also avoid a new learning curve for rebuilding brakes. Saving time is big for me right now. I'll look around for alternatives before making a purchase.

Cheers,

I myself would have no issue installing that kit on the 7.
Another point I consider when installing new or refurbished parts on these cars is the amount of miles that will be put on them, which compared to daily drivers is not a lot in most cases.
