I see what you mean.
To keep the look of a willys, I’d add a 6 inch skirt to the side and rear skins and grill shell but drop the entry opening 3 inches and lengthen the back of the front fenders. Then you could use solstice wheels for cheap and just need tires. 245-45-18 (26.7”od). The floor stays where it is with a higher cowl but chop the windscreen 6 inches. This way it is all salvage yard suspension/brakes/wheels with no adapting. I don't know that a 15 inch rim would clear solstice calipers.
I’m quite a bit past the point of changes like that, but they will clear the rear calipers. Probably wouldn’t if I used front spindles though. I have 7.4” to the lower ball joint from center of the hub. Haha, should be just enough room, depending on the wheels. If I step up to a 16 which was the original plan, I only have one tire option period. And super low profile so probably never get traction.
I did add 2” height to the body, and cut out just about as high as possible. Might have to got with 4” ride height, but that’s an easy adjustment.
