You may or may not know of these alternates to Moss for MGB engine parts.
http://www.sportscarpartsltd.com/https://www.bpnorthwest.com/https://northwestimportparts.com/Then there are the independent specialists found on MGExperieince.com that can supply parts too.
It has been 4 decades since I used northwestimportparts and bpnorthwest. Both were good suppliers back when I rebuilt a couple of “B” series engines in my MGA’s. Replacing cams and lifters; and rocker shafts and rocker bushings are pretty much a must IMO. The cylinders seem to be pretty strong unless they get scored or left out to rust and pit. For a budget build, you might get away with a ring and hone. The best crank and rod bearings are tri-metal. I’m not sure if the ones I listed below are tri-metal.
From northwestimportparts:
Ring set = 55
Rod bearing set = 44
Main bearings = 26
Thrust washer set= 10.5
Reground stock grind cam = 95
Cam thrust plate = 20
Lifters = ~5 ea x8
Rocker shaft = 24
Rocker bushings = 2 ea x 8
Payen (recommended) Head Gasket set = 49
Generic lower gasket set =15
Rear engine seal = 15
Timing cover seal = 2
