O'boy, I get to pick up the 442 tomorrow!
Let's not discuss the cost of collection incurred since I still have not quite completed rebuilding my flat-bed truck.
Flying in and renting a U-Haul.
I am combining the trip to also pick up a partially restored TR6 which I intend to finish.

So to date I have a rolling 442 chassis with all disk brakes, seats I may or may not use, radiator, Mazda trans that I will not be using.
I've also bought a ready to run Kent 1600 with Webers and transmission.
The Kent is a nicely original type drivetrain with the benefit of not needing any computers.

So the major items to still be sourced are Windshield and body.

Is this the rx7 build in Baton Rouge? That is a 442? I though it was a book build since the rotary filled out the bay pretty well.

No, Tucson.
Just a short jaunt to Northern Nevada, barely enough to raise blisters on my hands. :ack:

Survived the trip.
Chassis now sitting on furniture dollies atop the concrete that is to be the floor of my new shop.
Getting the new shop up is now the big push as I have to be moved out of my old shop by the end of this month.
Not putting tools and cars out in the weather!

Anyone know of some more "Traditional" style 15" wheels to fit the Mustang five-lug hubs?
I will also be changing out the seats as I cannot fit into what is there.
Anxious for the engine I bought to show up so that it may be fitted and I may finalize required bonnet height.
With that I may order the nose.
Hoping I get to use the clamshell fenders I already have.

May have found 15" wheels I like.
If the off-set works with my suspension.

One caution I would raise, Richard, is getting Locost-sized, high performance tires for 15" rims. It was difficult to do when I started my build several years ago. I'll bet it's tougher now. Tire development is all going to larger wheel sizes. I went to bigger wheels because of it.

Cheers,

205/50R15 performance tires are still widely available. TireRack lists 17 different "performance" tires in that size, with 11 of them having a UTQG rating of =/<200. It may just be the most popular of the 15" sizes.

Granted, everybody's idea of "high performance" can be different.

Once I've rested up a bit more I will have to see if it is possible to fit 13" over these disc brakes.
Probably not.
Going to try to make this build as "Traditional" as possible despite being a 442.
Hoping to avoid too low in profile tires.

Sorry, I really do have to erect the new shop building ASAP, yesterday would still be too late!
Got the snap lines laid out this morning, now off to drill 104 holes for anchor bolts.
Chassis is under a temporary cover and parts on shelves.

Harbor Fright hammer-drill caught FIRE on the second hole! :ack:
Guess it's time to buy a DeWalt.

Minilights FTW.
Those would be my first choice, for sure.

Are we still doing HF tool reviews?
The HF hammer drill lit itself on fire when drilling the second hole.
Now have a Black & Decker, hope it last longer.

Hiring help to get the first shop tent assembled this weekend.
With that done I will be able to complete my move and setting up shop at home, finally!

I prefer black and decker and milwaukee for hand tools. Just replaced my 80s black and decker bench grinder bearings. It's like a new machine. Had metal sheild 6202. Replaced with rubber sheilds so I can grease them if needed. Currently restoring a 90s tow dolly with plastic boat fenders, vertical stowage legs, led lights, plastic rub strips fro the deck to rotate on instead of metal on metal and a winching setup to pull vehicles on.

Finally something noteworthy happening!
Kent 1600 with Webers and 4-Speed trans shipment is booked at last.
Should have it in about ten days or so.
Even more reason to get the shop finished, I need this car, to drive until something else is ready.
Weary of DD in a one-ton flat-bed truck. :chev:

Back on the wheel topic, do you have good source for those wheels? Looking at street legal options for the 15x10 Bassets I have for mine, I'm thinking something not so wide will be preferable. There's only about 2-3 road legal options in such a wide section.

Minilights, Panasports, or similar is likely what I'll be going with. The 15" Bassets fit over the Wilwoods, so I'd assume most other 15s should fit as well.
