Pretty sure there have been T5's bolted to LIMA 2.3's from the factory and it's definitely been done in the aftermarket.

I believe a Ford T9 will also fit. I think the Merkur XR4TI came with a T9. If you not planning on a lot of power the T9 is perfect, not as desirable so cheaper.

I am amazed at how quickly modern components become unobtainium.
T9's are thin on the ground and expensive now, a few years ago I found two fairly easily under $300 each.
Same for V8 WC Camaro trans, lots made but now very hard to get.
Common T5's are from 6's and 4's with very low first gear, but that may be OK for your use.

I'd look for a T5, bell, and fork from an 87-93 mustang 2.3l. The input shaft is longer than on the 5.0l v8 version. Many have used the 2.3 version behind v8s. The difference in length can cause problems with the v8 thrust bearings but using the v8 version behind the four should not be an issue.

There were the mustang 2 traditional 4 spds as well as an aluminum 4 spd (SROD if memory serves) to about 83 in the fox bodied mustangs.

I'd second this though my understanding though is the V8 gearboxes have a larger diameter/different spline input shaft that doesn't directly work with the 2.3L. There are aftermarket solutions for that from what I saw with a quick search.

The flywheel, clutch, and pressure plate would be for 87-88 mustang SVO (9 x 10 tooth disc).

The less straightforward part would be a custom pilot bushing where the wall is only about 0.150" or turn down the input about 0.100 to fit the 2.3 bearing.

Going the other way, a jeep application pilot bearing is normally used. No, they didn't last long behind v8s for drag racing. Third typically failed.

I've not looked at current aftermarket solutions.
