Wow they must have given you the "we really don't want to insure this" price.

I think it helps if you already have a policy with the company, then you can just add it as a second car, which is what I did. Maybe it helps that I'm in CA and have a make, model, and VIN assigned by the state.

It didn't help me. 40 years with State Farm and they declined covering my Locost. 1 speeding ticket ~30 years ago. 1 chargeable accident ~25 years ago. That is it! I get all the discounts etc on my DD cars with them. They just didn't cover home builts of any kind. At least that is what my agent told me. They did cover my MGA for 10 years with an agreed value policy. Go figure. Hagerty, on the other hand, 24 hours after I had entered my on-line application and I had an insurance card for my Locost Seven. It seems, when it comes to insurance YMMV is real!

I called Geico and they said if I insured one other car with them i could get liability. The pricing was a the same as Hagerty with collision.

To get an online Hagerty quote, I selected the "2006 Ar-i-el At-om Base 2dr Race CarReplica" option. I don't know if mine is a replica or not. The best thing i can do is submit it and hope for the best. I need a VIN# though to finalize but still not sure if it will go through.

Going from a $35k value to $25k and making the deductible $1k instead of $0 (this is only a $100/yr change) gets me down to $795/yr. Parts alone total $25k.

After talking with Hagerty (for the 3rd time) it looks like i just need to make sure the car is registered as a 2006. They don't insure any other year At-om... which is strange.

Right now, just having insurance is a plus. I can shop around for better rates later on.

You can build the most awesome thing in the world but at some point, an 80yr old man in a crx is probably going kick your butt on the track... don't ask me how I know.

Good Luck. Hagerty covered my Locost before a VIN was assigned They just used "VIN pending" in that field then updated it when the VIN was assigned.

Called Hagerty on mine. They wont cover it unless its some sort of "replica" Maybe the majority here fits that but i didnt. They told me to try Grundy, They didnt ask many questions, set an agreed value of 10K and with full coverage including healthy trimmings and a $100 deductible, it came out to $189 a year. I was pleasantly suprised. NOW the catch is i still have to fill out the application and send photos. Its written up as a 2018 Special Construction yr/make/model

My biggest problem with Hagerty is that they want you to lock the car in a garage and never drive it. No thanks.
