Tbird7 wrote:violentblue I have a partly finished +4 " McSorley 341" chassis. I stopped working on it when I decided the Fox Mustang spindle conversion was a pooor design. I now have a Fox Mustang steering rack i can use 24 inches wide or an Appleton rack 18.5 inches wide.

If you can get me the measurements for the steering arm on the MII spindle I can do a quick calculation to tell you which one will work better.

wishbone file

Post by Locost 5.0 »

I'm going to post my suspension file when I get back in town. Just found a bad measurement, sorry about not getting it up Friday. So, look for it next weekend.

Thanks,

How's the design coming along? I have MKII spindles and 4 R6 shocks, 2 are 05 and 2 are 01. Would it help if I took a picture of one with a ruler beside it? I am using the book chassis size. I havent worked on any design for the front yet, just getting parts together. I'm working the rear end right now, hopefully I can get the 01 R6 shocks to work.

Keep us posted.

I still need to get some Mustang II spindles to get the front moving. I'll start on the rear this weekend hopefully.

I've got some of my other "stuff" up for sale as soon as some of it sells I'm buying a set of Mustang II spindles with a big brake kit (on ebay)

anyone have a set to lend me untill then?

I had an extra set of MII spindles a few months ago but I sold them on ebay. I'll be needing my current set very shortly for my own front suspension design. Wish I could help...

Yeah me too. I would have been happy to lend you my MKII spindles about a month ago, but I'm getting ready to start on my front suspension in about a week.

I'm about to begin fabrication of the prototype rear suspension.

I'm thinking I may start a new thread just for it. and include any designs or drawings as they are done. if someone else wants to begin their own, they should be able to from the info I'll post, But the intention is to put a full set of drawings together once its done and bugs worked out.

camber was off from the what it should have been in the design, I'm rechecking my measurement, I think I mis measured the top wishbone during fabrication, had I designed it with some adjustment this wouldn't be an issue.

so rechecking my numbers and preparing to draw the plans for the rear suspension up.

Still wish I could talk you into using the MN12/Tbird knuckles instead of the MII. Have you changed the rear hubs from 5 on 4.25 to 4.5?

I thought they were 4.5 on 5
hmm, better make sure.

send me the measurments for your knuckles and I'll draw up a variation for you.
-edit-
I see what you're saying, for the front suspension.
I've looked over the t-bird spindles, besides being ugly things I'm not sure how well they'll work. I know its been done before.

Maybe I'll have to head out to my favorite local salvage yard and take another look, if the price is right they'd be worth considering again.

I think I decided to go with the M2 spindles because of the brake options avaliable for them at a decent price ($400 on ebay for a set with 11" discs and 4 pot calipers)

Here is a set of Tbird knuckles used on a Deman BEC. You use the bottom half only cutting off the top half. If you are set on using the MII then converting the MN12 knuckles to 5 on 4.5 is easy though will require additional part$. There are a number of wheels that fit the 5 on 4.25 that look nice including a set of 16s that look like 93 Cobra wheels. Later tonight I'll try to get some measurements but generaly they are ABOUT 1"+ height, steering arm about the same, WMS 1'-, and spindle 1"+ kingpin, 8deg KPI as compared to MII spindles. The one used are the 89 to 92 that have a tab sticking out for the sway bar. These are cut off just above the tab and the tab is used for the upper BJ.

figured out the issues with my rear end, I mismeasured the lower a-arms during fabrication, and they are 1/2" short.

there is enough play in the cv's that I can cut the upper down to match, and still will have clearance between the wheels and the chassis. I just need to plug the changes into the suspension program and see what it does to my geometry. it'll probably loosen it up a bit, but not enough to be terribly concerned.

Why are pics of my T Bird coming up with the mentioning of someone getting parts?
