A.T. rebuild!

Post by GrampaTim »

I will be rebuilding the automatic transmission from a 1990 Mazda Miata. Does anyone have any recommendations for rebuild kits? Any that are better; any manufacturers to avoid? I'm getting the ATSG manual for theL4N71B Nissan 4-speed that is supposed to be what MAZDA used. Any experience out there?

"rebuild'" is a broad term.
What you find will dictate what parts you need. Not a lot of choices to be made.
Read the ATSG manual to determine if this is something you feel qualified and equipped to take on.

If you don't know the condition, install it but loop the cooler line so you can test without contaminating the new cooler. If it works, drop the pan and change the filter. It is normal to find a little sediment from wear in the pan on a high mileage trans.

I suggest a low and simple maintenance manual trans conversion that will cost less than an auto rebuild.
