Any cars in NE, Iowa, Kansas ?

Post by Jeff Lemon »

I,m in the early planning stages, looking for anyone with a car either built or started to look at within a coule hundred of miles of Lincoln NE. I'm thinking of a Miata based wide frame car, also looking at a rusty Jensen Healey with a good engine/ trans. I know it has disadvantages, but a real Lotus 2 liter with 140 horse and carbs would look "right" under the hood. Thanks, Jeff Lemon

Shawnee, Ks (Kansas City) here. I've got a genuine British mada Locost with a Escort 1300cc lump in it. Also there is a 280z based Locost in Lees Summit, Mo belonging to Julian D. You are welcome to come visit anytime. If the weather is good I'll take you for a blat. I remember a post a few month ago from someone on one of the forums that was doing the same thing with a Jensen. Was it You??? Check the UK forum to see if anyone has done it. Russ

Cedar Rapids, IA. 1 Locost, 2 Westfields. All run SCCA D/E Mod, stop by one of the IowaRegionSCCA's autocrosses this year and I'm sure you'll be able to look/see/sit all you'd like.

Thanks for the information, when spring arrives, I'll likely be setting up some time and making some road trips. Don't know who the other guy who was contemplating a Jensen Healey based car is, but I'd like to find out. W've got a couple of fairly serious Jensen guys in the Flatwater Healey club, and one is a very good autocross machine. Right now all I have are the books, a lot of notes, and some dreams. JL

The guy that runs the SCCA D/E Mod autocross forum and email list is from Iowa. He also has a "speed shop" sort of that he builds 7 clones for other people mostly for autocross. His name is Del Long and the place is Sprinto Enterprises or something like that...

It is a yahoo group site:

I live across the country from Iowa o I don't know the geography of the state (other than cold in the winter). So I don't know where he is located. But I think he is someone that a locust builder near him should know.

This is a picture of his car

You might need a yahoo id (free) for that.

Yep, I'm quite familiar w/ Del. He's one of the clones you'll see if you come to an Iowa Region SCCA autocross this summer.

PS. Del is here in Cedar Rapids, IA.
