Getting new/unread posts to go away
Alright. I feel pretty dumb for not figuring this out. Ever since the forum update, a post/subforum shows unread until I read them all. The old software used to clear "assume" I read them the next time around without me having to read them. There are several posts that do not concern me and its getting annoying to have to check the section just to see its the same old posts I dont care to read still unread. Does anyone know how to make the new posts only "new" the first time you visit after its posted? I've been thru the user control panel and there is nothing there that seems like it will do this.

About the only way I know of to do this is to "mark all forums read" before you leave each time. The link appears on the top right of the forums on the index page.

I prefer to hit the "View New Posts" link near the top. It gives you what you're looking for, spanning all forums on one page, to boot. Give it a try.

Re: Getting new/unread posts to go away
I looked everywhere for that "View New Posts" button and I can't find it. Why?

It's right below, "Last visit was...", crammed in right next to "View active topics." They forgot to add a divider bar.

Re: Getting new/unread posts to go away
What page are you on to see these things?
It's not on the Index page or on any of the forums I can find.
Now it's there! That's funny, my top portion of the page has changed and now there's a line below the "Last Visit" line. Maybe it just wasnt' loading all the way.
I spent quite a bit of time looking for that this morning on mulitple pages and it never appeared.
Now that list seems shorter than what I get when I go thru forum by forum so what's the difference between viewing them that way and going to each forum or where are the missing threads?

The only way I ever view the forums is through the new posts link

Re: Getting new/unread posts to go away
Is that new posts since my last visit? Or posts I haven't read yet?

Since your last visit. I use that link all the time, because I find the vast array of topics too much to wade through each visit.

Re: Getting new/unread posts to go away
Dang it. Since I can't always read all the new posts at one time that means I'll still have to wade thru the forums.
Oh well, it's still better than wading thru every time. Thanx for the info guys.

That problem used to be my great nemesis...plaguing me with tardiness at work, altered tidal movements, and the suspension of aging in order to not miss new posts.
Thanks to the miracle of software upgrades, however, those maladies are a thing of my past! Now if I foobar my "new posts" list, I can always turn to the placid sanguinity of the "View Active Topics" link. It's just like "View New Posts," except it, too, has learned the secret of transcending death, retaining new posts long after the spiteful brevity of your current session.
Give it a try! I did, and I'm a new man. My boss thinks I'm great, the surfers are content, and my grandchildren are no longer present at my own birth.

Good call Dave, I hadn't picked up on that feature, but it should make it allot easier to keep up.
